Project Scope

To create a lifting system compatible with existing technologies that allows access to the ALS patient's lower body (for toileting) without putting excessive force on the patient's upper body.

SPECIFICATIONS:
 

  • Must allow for toileting

  • Patient must be able to wear any clothes they desire on the lower body

  • Must be made of water resistant materials

  • Does not produce any force on the patient's shoulder depressor muscles

  • Must be able to lift up to 600 pounds (272.155 kg)

  • Compatible with existing technology

  • Must not weigh more than 22 pounds (10 kg)

  • Must be able to spread load over a 2-, 4-, or 6-point bar.
