Strap Attachment 

Due to quality concerns, we decided against the use of metal grommets in the sling design. Bending, faulty attachment, and additional cost were all factors in this decision. The support straps will therefore be sewn directly onto the sling. The same stitching thread will be used throughout the entire sling. Pattern will be a square around the edges with a cross sewn diagonally through it for strength. This is called the x-box stitch. An example is shown below.

 

 

 

The properties of this thread lend themselves very well to the stitching in the sling:

  • A breaking strength of 22 lbf (97.86 N)

  • Maximum elongation of 26%

  • Melting point of 251.6 °C

  • Insoluble in most organic solvents and resistant to most acids

  • Mildew resistant

  • Resists abrasion

  • Durable over long periods of time
